Message from Collin May, Chief of the Commission and Tribunals, Alberta Human Rights Commission
(September 8, 2022)
The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Earlier today, Buckingham Palace confirmed the news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed. In these sad circumstances, the Commission, following precedent, has adjourned its hearings and conciliations for the day. There will be a 10-day mourning period before her funeral will take place that the Commission will recognize.
Queen Elizabeth II is known as the longest serving monarch in British history. She is remembered for the dignity with which she carried out the duties of her office and for her devotion to her subjects. Her late Majesty visited Canada, including Alberta, numerous times over her reign. She is known throughout the Commonwealth and the world for her efforts in uniting people, and she held a special relationship with Canada's Indigenous Peoples.
The Commission extends our deepest sympathies to Her late Majesty's eldest son, King Charles III, and to all members of the Royal Family.
