FOUR APPOINTMENTS TO THE COMMISSION
(December 15, 2011)
An acting director and three new part-time members of the Commission have been appointed to the Alberta Human Rights Commission. Audrey Dean, the Commisson's senior legal counsel, has been appointed as the acting director. She will perform the director's duties until a permanent director is appointed. The new members of the Commission are Catherine Christopher, Sharon Lindgren-Hewlett and Melissa Luhtanen. Their terms will end on December 31, 2014. Read the Government of Alberta new release.

COMMISSION CONGRATULATES LEGAL COUNSEL ARMAN CHAK
- The Commission congratulates Arman Chak of Edmonton, legal counsel with the Alberta Human Rights Commission, on winning the 2011 Edmonton Community Foundation Eileen Nash Memorial Award for his efforts in providing services on a pro bono basis for charities and charitable causes that enhance the quality of living for under-privileged people in the Edmonton area.
- The Commission congratulates Cam Stewart of Calgary, community services consultant with the Alberta Human Rights Commission, on winning the Community Learning Network Outstanding Contribution to Community Adult Learning Award for his volunteer work in promoting and supporting learning and literacy to adult learners in the province.

NEW COMMISSION PROMOTIONAL RESOURCE
"ABORIGINAL PEOPLE AND THE ALBERTA HUMAN RIGHTS ACT"

The Commission has developed a new promotional resource titled Aboriginal People and the Alberta Human Rights Act. The resource will raise awareness in the Aboriginal community in Alberta about the programs and services of the Commission and the purpose of Alberta Human Rights Act. It was developed in collaboration with the Commission's partners in the Aboriginal community, including the Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge, Native Counselling Services of Alberta, the Aboriginal Commission on Human Rights and Justice, and the Calgary Urban Aboriginal Initiative.
ALBERTA HUMAN RIGHTS TRIBUNAL DECISIONS NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH THE CANADIAN LEGAL INFORMATION INSTITUTE (CANLII)
