Medical and other professional services: How to resolve a complaint
In some situations, individuals who believe that a professional service provider has discriminated against them may get results by first trying to resolve the issue on their own. A conversation with the professional involved or a manager may be enough to get the issue looked into or the matter resolved. The service provider may not be aware that they have done anything discriminatory. When told of the problem or concern, the service provider may stop the discrimination and correct any inequity it might have caused.
An individual may also choose to seek advice from the Alberta Human Rights Commission about how to deal with the discrimination. The individual may decide to make a human rights complaint to the Commission. A complaint must be made within one year after the alleged incident of discrimination.
