Updated Online Complaint Form Now Available

The Commission has updated its online complaint form with clearer instructions and guided questions to help people make a complaint.

The updated form is designed to make it as straightforward as possible for Albertans to provide the information needed to file a human rights complaint. It includes step-by-step guidance, helpful prompts, and guided questions throughout the form.

What’s new about the updated form?

  • Improved instructions about who to name as the respondent
  • Simplified questions about when and where the alleged discrimination occurred
  • More opportunities to explain which protected ground or grounds apply, such as race, disability, gender, or religious beliefs
  • An enhanced “What happened?” section that includes:
    • A checklist of events
    • Guided questions (what, when, where, who, etc.)
    • A place to explain how the events are connected to a protected ground
  • More detailed questions about what outcome the person is looking for
  • Questions about grievances or other actions related to the complaint
  • New acknowledgements to help people understand their responsibilities throughout the complaint process

The complaint process itself is not changing. The updates only affect how information is collected through the online complaint form.

What do users need to do to complete the new form?

  • Read each question carefully
  • Provide as much detail as they can about what happened, when it happened, who was involved, and how it relates to a protected ground
  • Review the acknowledgements before submitting the form

If someone submitted the online complaint form before the updated form went live, they do not need to resubmit their complaint. Complaints submitted using the old form will remain in the queue and will continue to be processed.
